The Myth That No One Needs More Than Ten Rounds

The Myth That No One Needs More Than Ten Rounds

Anti-gun activists and self-serving politicians are eager to proclaim that there’s no reason for anyone (except the police, of course) to have a magazine that holds more than ten rounds of ammunition. They claim that these “high-capacity” magazines are simply tools to facilitate mass murder. On the surface, this seems logical; however, upon deeper investigation it becomes clear that their claim is nothing more than emotion filled rhetoric. First of all, a magazine holding more than ten rounds is technically not ”high-capacity.” In fact, many modern guns are designed to hold between twelve to thirty rounds of ammunition to make them suitable for their intended purpose, whether that’s self-defense, hunting or target practice. Semantics aside, a magazine capable of holding thirty or even one hundred rounds is just as safe as a magazine capable of holding only ten rounds. Magazines do not possess magical powers that somehow transform an otherwise sane …

Who is Responsible for Our Veterans?

Who is Responsible for Our Veterans?

Several days later I am still sickened over news of a tragic incident I learned of this weekend. Chris Kyle, a highly decorated Navy SEAL sniper with four tours of duty in Iraq was murdered by Eddie Ray Routh, a veteran Marine that he was trying to help cope with the horrors of the war from which he had recently returned. I’m saddened because a hero who saved countless American lives was murdered while trying to help those most in need, and I’m appalled because this heinous act was committed by one of my fellow Marines. For what it’s worth, I do not think Routh should receive special treatment because he was suffering from PTSD. Our armed forces are held to a higher standard regardless of the circumstances we face. Routh clearly did not receive sufficient help to cope with the struggles he faced, but that does not in any …

An AR-15 is Great for Self-Defense; Dept. Homeland Security Agrees

An AR-15 is Great for Self-Defense; Dept. Homeland Security Agrees

In the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, anti-gun activists are again preaching that we must ban “assault weapons” to protect the  innocent, despite the fact that what they refer to as an assault weapon wasn’t even used, while attention-starved politicians clamor that weapons like the AR-15 are designed for mass murder and are useless for personal defense. First, the 2nd Amendment is not about “sporting purposes” so let’s get over that nonsense. It’s about our right to defend ourselves—nothing less. Second, contrary to lies unfounded claims by progressive politicians, an AR-15 is not designed for mass murder. If that were true, we should all be very worried because every police department across the country has an arsenal of AR-15s and the Department of Homeland Security recently placed a solicitation for an additional 7,000 AR-15s specifically for personal defense. Personal Defense Weapons Solicitation This announcement is being placed in accordance …

Is the Time Right for Women on the Front Lines?

Is the Time Right for Women on the Front Lines?

Claiming it would strengthen both the military and the country, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta on Thursday rescinded a ban on women in combat, saying that it was “the responsibility of every citizen to protect the nation.” The argument in favor is that women are being denied career advancement and additional pay by not being on the front lines, however, that is a lie. If it were true, all front-line infantry troops would be generals by now. The fact is everyone in a combat zone, whether on the front lines, or miles behind sitting in the relative safety of base camp,  receives the same awards and combat pay. On paper, it sounds great; equal opportunity and all, but is it viable in the real world? Is the time finally right to put women on the front lines of combat, side by side with men fighting for their lives? In reality, it’s …

Where Are the Real Parents Today?

Where Are the Real Parents Today?

I was in the store a a few days ago and a watched a small child on a rampage that would make Godzilla blush. She was throwing Captain Crunch boxes off the shelves, talking back, yelling, and even hitting her mother. What was her mother’s reaction? It was nothing like what most of of would have received when we were children; she simply told her daughter that it “hurt her feelings when she acted this way” and proceeded to bribe her by offering to buy Oreos if she behaved. This kind of garbage makes me wish Dr. Phil had never been born. Since it’s too late to change that, is it wrong to wish he would be hit by a bus? Parents today don’t seem to understand their job. It’s not to guilt or bribe your children into behaving properly. It’s not to be their “bestie,” or get all their …
